Bonner, John. The Town of Boston in New England.

(May) The first published detailed map of Boston, it is described by the Boston-News-Letter as “A Curious Ingraven Map of the Town of Boston, with all of the streets, lanes, Alleys, Wharffs & Houses, the Like never done before. . . ” The map portrays some 58 wharves, 42 streets, 36 lanes, 22 alleys. In the margin of the map, Bonner writes, “Houses, near 3,000; 1,000 brick, rest Timber. Near 15,000 people.” The map is revised and reprinted in 1729, 1732, 1733, 1739, 1743, and 1769. Only three copies of the original are known to exist today.
